Melanie Young (she/they) is an actor, singer, and teaching artist living and working in New York City.
Recent credits include Snowbot in the world premiere of The Christmas Express: A New Musical, a Featured Soloist at The Comeback Cabaret where they performed If I Were a Bell from Guys and Dolls and Out of My Head by Kooman and Dimond, and Helen in Orestes. They can also regularly be seen on the @treasuretrunktheatre instagram being featured in reels.
Originally from Washington State, Melanie moved to New York City in May of 2023. She attended Pacific Lutheran University where she earned her BFA in Musical Theatre in 2022. She has trained extensively in many vocal styles- including opera, musical theatre, and pop/rock- and currently runs her own private voice studio. She is a Soprano-Belter and their vocal range is F3-E6.
Though musical theatre is one of Melanie’s great loves, she has been acting in straight plays since her stage debut as a munchkin in The Wizard of Oz in 2010. She has trained specifically in many acting disciplines- Uta Hagen, Meisner, (late)Stanislavski- and has experience in both Shakespeare and classic Greek theatre. Acting to Melanie is the ultimate form of empathy- completely stepping into the mind and body of an entirely different person and adopting their world view.
Melanie Young is an artist, teacher, cat mom, friend, and sister. She loves all things theatre and plans to continue performing in NYC and beyond for as long as she is physically able. There is no greater joy.
Lastly, as always, she would like to thank Stephanie Guzman for inspiring her love theatre.
I wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you.
